In
looking at the website I found a lot of interesting things on the site. The
site discussed many things that interest me. One of the things that interest me
is how the purpose of the Global Children’s Initiative is to reframe the
discourse around children health and development, support and build leadership in child development
polices and research.
The focus of the site
is on early childhood development; child mental health; and children in crisis and conflict situations.Theser are the
chidlren and family the site helps to suport.
I also
enjoyed the link that had many books and
articles about different issues related to chidlren, povery and their family.
One article titled Strengthening Adult Capacities to Improve Child
Outcomes: A New Strategy for Reducing Intergenerational Poverty by Jack P. Shonkoff, Harvard University . This
Article discussed the different issues related to poverty and what we as educators
a parents must do to help our children succeed.
Shonkoff stated “It’s clear that high-quality early childhood programs can make
a measurable difference for children in poverty, but we must do more.” And I
agree. There are so many children in this world that are not afforded the
luxury of a good education that will prepare them for school. I understand that
poverty is an issue but I feel that parents who are capable and who know and
value education should implant their knowledge and education into the children.

LaKetha,
ReplyDeleteI researched this website as well. I love finding good articles for families to read. My assistant teacher I had last year has quit and I am beginning to collect articles for my new assistant. I find that articles that relate to our families helps those that work with the families.
I enjoyed reading your blog.

Laketha,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing the gist of this amazing website that will open up the many issues of early childhood education faced in other countries. Throughout the course we seem to end up at poverty being the biggest culprit. I shared my thoughts about India and issues there and this was my conclusion too. There are parents who want to do their best for children in terms of education and are willing to sacrifice their meals for that purpose. However, it is not until the child is 10 or 11 years old that the value of education even becomes evident to these willing parents. So the entire early childhood does not seem to be in their radar at all. Again, many societies seem to be approaching this issue starting from high school and working their way down when in reality we have learned that we should be doing this the other way round! Hoping that educators like us can turn that around!
Best,
Divya
