My Supports

When it comes to Support. I have a lot of support from many people from all walks of life. I have support from people who sometimes seem so distant. I have a lot of support from my mother and many of my family members. Sometimes I feel like I 'm all alone due to many things that I have to endure. I have migraines and they incapacitate me so sometimes I feel like I need more support in this area. My children have  had to deal with their mother being  unable to do things that normal mother s can when I have a headache.
Once place I wish I had more support was on the Job. On the Job there is not much support on the job when we are going through stress. The job itself is stressful but there is not much support for workers who need an outlet.

My Play Connections

Quotes
“Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold” Joseph Chilton Pearce

Play is Children's Work, Jean Piaget

As I child I grew up in  a neighborhood where I was the youngest  and the only girl on the block. I was the only girl on the block so I played with a lot of my boy cousins. I play football, basketball, baseball, hide and go seek and many  other games.
I also played my Atari because I was  only child.  So I spent a lot of my time alone at home in my room. My family supported me when I was in Head Start and throughout my years of school. They continue  support me even now.
As an adult all my children  attended the same Head start that I went to and had the pleasure of meeting some of the teacher that I had as a  child.

Playing as a child was great for me and I believe that as adults we must continue to play in a sense  and not be so uptight.

Currrent Relationships/Reflecting on Building Relationships

 Why are relationships important?
In this world we live in we experience all type of relationships in  our lives. Many of thosse relationships have to do with our family, friends, and otehr  important individuals.

I feel that we all have to build relationships and the ability to do that starts from birth. As children we learn how to love, show love, and determine how love is to feel. My family  are the most imporatnt individuals in my live and that family consist of My three children Amyra 19, Ashanti 14, and SynCere 10. My paretns, gradnparetns and siblings.

My relationship with my mother caused me to be an independant individual and never give up on life.

My relationship with my Biological father was strained and not that close as a child, However as I became an adult we have built a bond despite the  things that took place when I was a child.

My relationship with my children: WOW!!!! it has taught me how to be a mother, friend, doctor, referee, couselor, and most of all a MOTHER. These three people are all different in their own ways. I have to treat all of them with respect and same but differently.

QUOTES ABOUT CHILDREN

I have two quotes taht I really like about chidlren. As adults we think children are not wathcing us, listening to us, or hearin us, but they are.  Chidlren are humans to and they deserve to be loved,c ared for, and treated with respect.

Henry Ward Beecher, reverand and social activist
"Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven."

A child can ask questions that a wise man cannot answer. ~Author Unknown

EDUCATING THE YOUNG CHILD

The Whole Child
1. Considering a commitment to viewing young children holistically (i.e., a commitment to "the whole child"), what, if anything, do you believe should be measured or assessed? Explain your reasoning. I believe that  family history should be assessed  because it will give us as educators and idea of how the children are raised, what the culture is, what things they have been exposed to, how they value relationships, what  limitations if any, medical history,
2. In what ways are school-age children assessed in other parts of the world? (Choose a country or region of the world for which you have a personal affinity.)
I choose Europe and children in Europe are assessed through testing. According to Cassidy (2008)”Primary school pupils have to deal with unprecedented levels of pressure as they face tests more frequently, at a younger age, and in more subjects than children from any other country, according to one of the biggest”.

I feel that testing is not always the best way to assess a child. I feel that some children have testing anxiety and therefore may not do well with testing. I feel that a child’s progress should not be assessed by testing alone.

Stressers in the lifes of Children

I am a Social Worker in Child Protective Services and I see a lot of things. I see children who have to experience many  things as young people. These things range from  older siblings taking care of their sick parents  as well as having to take care of their younger  brothers and sisters.

According to (Bohmer 2013) the top 10 stressors for children are:

  • Parent having problems.
  • Fight with a friend or a sibling.
  • Taking a test.
  • Wondering if someone thinks you're attractive (teens especially).
  • Not having enough privacy.
  • Birth of a brother or sister.
  • Moving to a new school.
  • Re/marriage of a parent.
  • Not having enough money.
  • A teacher who doesn't like you.

  • As teachers and parents we must realize that children experience stress also and we must be able to recognize it and be capable of teaching them how to deal with it positively. Children deal with stress in many ways, and  they act out, they regress to younger years.
